Cultivate Optimism

Cultivating a culture of optimism is important for your work life, sure, but is it more important for your personal well-being?

Optimism is very annoying when you’re not the one feeling that way.  But cultivating optimism is something to practice  – and the more you practice, the more you feel it.  A few tips:

  • Start your day off right. Whatever right is to you. For me that means a good coffee, walk with the dog, and NOT checking my email right away.
  • Hang out with optimistic people.  Research shows, much like  “you are what you eat”, that you are who you hang out with.
  • Ask yourself questions that let you see the optimistic viewpoint. What is one thing that is positive or good about this situation? What is one thing I can learn from this situation? What is one opportunity within this situation?
