What kills more people?  Lung cancer or traffic accidents?  If you look at the local paper, a typical newspaper has 42 articles about traffic accidents for every 1 article about lung cancer.  That’s a lot of data telling you to be more careful about driving – which is good – but it’s at odds with the reality of quitting smoking v safe driving.  3x more people people die from lung cancer as from traffic accidents. 

If you want to influence your organization, watch the information that’s flowing into your organization every day.  If you want people to care about quality, flood that information stream with quality stories.  If you want people to care about innovation, flood that information stream with innovation stories.  To change people’s behavior, get their attention.
